Who we are

Mego Matrimony is a matrimony app and website operated by Mego Consultancy. This policy explains what we collect when you use the Mego Matrimony app or this website, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who creates a profile, including profiles created with help from a Mego agent on your behalf.

Information we collect

Account details. Your mobile number is how you sign in — we send a one-time code to verify it. You may also add your name and an email address.

Profile details. Information you add to build your profile, such as date of birth, gender, marital status, religion, caste, mother tongue, education, occupation, income range, diet and lifestyle habits (e.g. smoking/drinking), and your city or location. Caste and several other fields are optional, and you can mark yourself as open regardless of caste.

Photos and a verification selfie. The profile photos you upload, plus a selfie we use once to confirm a real person is behind the profile. The selfie is processed through Amazon Rekognition (part of Amazon Web Services) for face matching — it is not shared for any other purpose.

Horoscope details. If you choose to provide them, your birth date, time and place, nakshatra, and an uploaded horoscope chart image, used to calculate compatibility (Dasa Koota) scores with other members.

If your profile was created by a Mego agent on your behalf. The agent may collect a government ID (such as PAN, passport, or driving licence) to verify your identity in person. We store only the document type, the last 4 digits, and a one-way cryptographic hash of the full number — never the number itself in plain text — along with the scanned image.

Activity on the app. Interests you send or receive, profiles you view or shortlist, and messages you send once you've unlocked chat with someone. This is what makes matching and your "who viewed you" stats work.

Payment information. If you subscribe to a plan, payment is handled directly by Razorpay, our payment processor. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded and a transaction reference — we never see or store your card, UPI, or bank details.

Device and notification data. A push-notification token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can alert you to new interests and messages, and standard technical data such as your app version and device type for troubleshooting.

What we don't collect

We do not request your location or track your GPS position. We do not read your contacts. We do not run third-party advertising or analytics SDKs that track you across other apps — any ads shown inside Mego Matrimony come from our own, admin-managed inventory, not an ad-tracking network.

How we use your information

• To create, display, and help you manage your profile
• To calculate match recommendations and horoscope compatibility
• To verify that profiles belong to real people and reduce fake accounts
• To process subscription payments and apply the entitlements they unlock
• To send you notifications about interests, matches, and messages
• To respond when you contact support, and to investigate misuse or safety reports

Who we share it with

Other members. Your profile is visible to members of the opposite gender you'd be matched with, following your own visibility setting. Your phone number and email stay hidden from other members until you choose to reveal them, or another member unlocks them with an active subscription.

Service providers, strictly to run the app. Amazon Web Services (hosting, and Rekognition for selfie verification), Razorpay (payments), and Google/Firebase (push notifications). Each only receives what it needs to do its job.

Legal requirements. If required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our members.

We do not sell your personal data to anyone, for advertising or any other purpose.

Data security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text. ID document numbers collected during agent-assisted registration are hashed, not stored in full. Access to member data is limited to the systems and staff who need it to operate the service.

Your choices and rights

• Edit or update your profile at any time from inside the app
• Control who can see your profile (your visibility setting)
• Choose which notifications you receive
• Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Delete your account and data at any time, from Settings inside the app

Account deletion and data retention

Deleting your account removes your profile, photos, and messages from our active systems. Some records — such as transaction history required for accounting, or information needed to investigate an active safety report — may be retained as required by law, and backups are purged on a routine cycle.

Children's privacy

Mego Matrimony is a service for adults of legal marriageable age. It is not directed at, and must not be used by, anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
